Often, college students are faced with the problem of buying cheap food. Many college students live on peanut butter and jelly. Most college students think bread is good for them, it doesn’t matter if it’s white or wheat. But, when college students start to gain weight, they start to wonder why. Have you thought that bread might be the cause of a college student’s weight gain? Bread? That cannot be so! Most people associate bread with healthy food. Sure, it’s not good if you eat a whole loaf of it, but it’s still pretty good for you right? Actually, it’s wrong. White bread is actually one of the worst things for you to eat. Now, if you are talking about multi-grain bread, it is chock-full of many nutrients and vitamins. Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t buy white bread (even if it’s really cheap).
1. It doesn’t have any taste. White bread is pretty bland. There is no flavor to it. But, at the same time, that’s why so many people like it doesn’t interfere with the taste of your meat or peanut butter and jelly. However, it doesn’t enhance the flavor either!
2. It’s not filling. Even if white bread is cheap, it really isn’t as filling as you’d expect it to be. Because it’s not filling, you will eat more bread, which will cause you to buy more bread because you are eating more! If you are trying to go on a diet, you should avoid white bread at all costs!
3. It has a lot of chemicals. White bread is made with tons of bleached flour. It isn’t even regular flour, it’s bleach. As in, the stuff that you use to bleach your clothes! It doesn’t sound too safe to eat something that is a hazardous chemical around the house.
4. It doesn’t have a lot of nutrients. Because white bread is made with bleached flour, it simply does not have a lot of nutrients. In fact, it hardly has any. It has so little that some bread makers have to put the nutrients back into the bread!
5. This bread can contribute to diabetes. There have been studies that have been conducted that show that those who eat a lot of white bread (and processed food) have a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
Although white bread might be cheaper, it’s a better choice to get wheat bread that isn’t as processed.
