Contact lenses have changed my life. I always used to wear glasses, and I didn’t like the way that I looked. I kind of felt nerdy. With contacts, I have felt very confident about myself. Some people might be afraid of contacts because they have to put something in their eyes. I know that I was a bit squeamish when I had to put something in my eyes. It was a weird experience. If you are going to be getting contacts (or you already have them), here are 7 tips to making sure that you enjoy your contacts.
1. Hygiene. Make sure that you are always keeping your contacts clean. This means that you should wash your hands before you put your contacts in. This also means that you should take out your contacts every night (unless you have the kind where you can leave them in). If you leave in your contacts, you could get a serious disease in your eyes.
2. Make sure that you follow the instructions. If you are a newbie at contacts, your eye doctor will give you instructions to follow―follow them! It is really easy to get into bad habits with your contacts, but don’t do it!
3. Schedule regular checks. Make sure that you schedule regular (yearly) eye checks. If you feel any discomfort, don’t be hesitant to contact your eye doctor.
4. Make sure that you are extra careful with colored lenses. If you like to wear colored lenses, you should be even more careful about your eyes. Don’t wear your lenses for too long and make sure that you are getting the lenses from a reputable source.
5. Be careful with lotions. When you are putting your contacts on, make sure that you don’t have any creams or lotions on your hands. If you do, it won’t be a pleasant experience when you put your contacts in.
6. Do make up after. Be sure to put on your eye makeup after you put in your contacts. It will be easier to see what you are applying.
7. Storage, storage, storage! Where you store your contacts is one of the most important parts of contact care. Make sure that you keep them in a plastic case with a lid. If it doesn’t have a lid, it will dry your contacts out!
Your eyes are an important part of who you are. Make sure that you take care of them.
